Presenting the paper Modeling Quantum Circuits with UML

Ricardo Perez del CastilloLuis Jimenez Navajas y Mario Piattini have submitted the article Modeling Quantum Circuits with UML in the Q-SE (Quantum Software Engineering) workshop of the 43rd edition of the International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE 2021), held from May 23 to 29, 2021, the article that addresses the challenge of quantum software design.

Since UML is a well-proven modeling language widely used by industry for a long time, we propose an extension of UML for the representation of quantum algorithms. Our proposal comprises the definition of a UML profile based on various stereotypes that can be applied to existing UML activity diagrams to represent quantum circuits. The advantage of this representation is that the UML quantum circuits can be interrelated with other UML elements and diagrams, which will allow representing various concerns and points of view of the so-called hybrid information systems.

Consequently, this will allow classical and quantum aspects to be modeled together in integrated designs in a technology-agnostic manner, as advocated by the Talavera Manifesto.
