Personalized Tutoring Program

Tutor helping student

The personalized tutoring program of the University of Castilla-La Mancha is part of the Teaching Quality Improvement Plan and incorporates some guidance responsibilities into the teaching function of the teachers involved. These do not have to do directly with the contents of the different subjects, although they do relate to the corresponding degree and its context, with the assigned students and their decision-making and, ultimately, with their complementary training. More or less explicitly, the hypothesis is supported that the training received by students in skills complementary to study, in areas related to personal maturity and in their university career in general also favor academic success and, of course, personal development. and even the subsequent labor insertion.

The Personalized Tutorials are different from the academic Tutorials that correspond to attend each teacher to clarify doubts or deepen with the student in the knowledge of the specific subject taught.

This Plan or Program of Personalized Tutoring is basically aimed at trying to enhance the abilities of the students, strengthen the weaknesses that arise in the learning processes and provide academic guidance that helps the student in making decisions in relation to the training options that they gives you the University.

Specifically, this Personalized Tutoring Program has as its main OBJECTIVES:

  • Facilitate the integration process and the participation of students in the university system.
  • Guide students in the development of their learning strategies to improve their academic performance.
  • Offer the necessary personalized academic guidance to students as a means of advice that serves as a basis for making their decisions. For example: inform you about the Study Plan or the operation of the Faculty and the University; guide you on the different regulations that apply to you (Permanence, Evaluation, Recognition of Credits,...); help you in making decisions regarding subjects and/or itineraries, as well as in planning enrollment for the next course; point out the bodies to which they must go in the face of certain problems or situations that may have arisen,...
  • Guide you in the creation of a professional profile through information on the content of the optional subjects, as well as inform you about scholarships, professional opportunities, postgraduate studies, or exchange and internship programs that may be of interest to you.
On the other hand, it is expected that as a result of this Personalized Tutoring Program the Center will be able to gather information regarding the opinion of the Students about the Center and its operation, thus making it possible to detect possible dysfunctions and existing problems.

The protocol that will be followed each academic year to assign a personalized tutor to each newly enrolled student will be as follows:

  • The process will be directed and supervised by the Academic Secretariat of the Center, and will begin once the Center has been notified by the Student Management Unit that the process of enrolling students in the Degrees taught at the Center has been completed.
  • The assignment will be made trying to respect the affinity between the degree course taken by the student and the degree in which the professor gives most of his teaching.
  • The number of students assigned to each tutor may vary each course depending on the number of newly enrolled students, ensuring - as far as possible - that only full-time professors are designated as personal tutors.
  • The appointment process will be "blind", in the sense that two lists will be drawn up: one of the new students ordered by the number of their National Identity Document, and another of the Professors ordered in this case in alphabetical order, which will be crossed respecting the two criteria indicated above.

Once a Personal Tutor has been assigned for each student, it will be disseminated through the following channels:

  • The Virtual Teaching Platform MOODLE, which allows the Centers to enter the name of their personal tutor for each student, in such a way that they can have immediate and direct knowledge.
  • By email, each teacher will be notified of the name and contact information - telephone and e-mail - of the students to be tutored.
  • Within the website of the Faculty or Center, a general list will be included with the assignment of new tutors made each academic year.

As already indicated, the appointment of Personal Tutor is understood to be valid throughout the period in which the student is studying. However, if the student wishes to change the Tutor, he/she may submit said request to the Dean/Director by means of a reasoned document, and the Academic Secretary of the Center is responsible for requesting a report from the Professor in question regarding his/her opinion regarding said request, and resolving the same. within a maximum period of 3 weeks.

Each Professor will personally develop their Personalized Tutoring Plan, agreeing on the group/individual meeting system that they consider most appropriate, although it is recommended that each tutor hold at least two meetings each year with their tutored students.
