PROFESSIONALIZE YOURSELF

Nowadays, we are living in a really convulsive and unusual time from the point of view of employability. In the discipline of Computer Science, although the employability of graduates is relatively high, there are still cases in which recent graduates do not obtain the position or remuneration that would correspond to them according to their academic level due to lack of technological or linguistic specialization.

However, and due to our vocation as teachers and engineers, this situation provides extra motivation to do everything possible to increase and/or improve the employability of our students.

From the Escuela Superior de Informática (ESI) of Ciudad Real we plan to design a possible solution to improve this problem. This possible solution involves adding extra value to our students' Bachelor's and/or Master's degrees in Computer Engineering. And this extra value consists of strengthening the professional skills of the students by bringing the company closer to the university and the university to the company. With this, students can finish their careers more “professionalized” Achieving a professional profile that is as close as possible to that demanded by the main employers, both in the region and abroad, while maintaining the scientific rigor of an Engineering such as Computer Science.

To do this, we plan to develop an appropriate framework to coordinate and manage different mechanisms that allow creating opportunities for students to acquire this added value.

In an attempt to cover the maximum spectrum of possible situations for our students, we have decided to focus on two mechanisms or lines of action: student access to professional and linguistic certifications, and the signing of special agreements with companies, which we call FORTE (acronym for Strengthening the professional skills of graduates to improve their Employability).

In addition to improving the employability of graduates, the profESIonalízate program aims to achieve other additional objectives, such as the "professionalization" of the teachers themselves. This "professionalization" of the teachers aims to recycle and update their technological knowledge and bring them closer to the reality of companies so that they can better transmit the professional and engineering vocation to the students. For this, the renewal of the subjects is proposed without losing the vocation of university education. Finally, we understand that all these benefits affect an improvement in the quality of teaching. We think that these efforts will bring net benefits to the students, and that at least, they will serve to complement their university education.
