COE and VR Commerce Students

The fourth-year students of the subject of Electronic Commerce in the intensification of information technologies, participated today in an experimentation session on immersive shopping experiences.

During the session, students had the opportunity to physically interact with objects that were scanned using novel and low-cost digitization techniques, as well as Artificial Intelligence. Subsequently, they interacted with part of these objects, which were integrated into a web portal prototype that allows natural interaction with the 3D products.

After that, the students immersed themselves in a totally immersive shopping space, through the use of virtual reality glasses such as Oculus Meta Quest 2, Oculus Meta Quest PRO and Oculus Meta Quest 3. First, in a small space with special attention to products that were previously physically examined and digitized. Secondly, in a large virtual space that simulates a real shopping center.

The prototype used in the experimentation has the capacity to monitor the user's activity: kinematics and interactions through hands, eyes, manipulation of objects and movements. Through this information it tries to profile and catalog the user to improve the purchasing experience, with recommendations tailored to the profile.

The user, through their hands and without the need to use external controllers, can examine and manipulate objects in a way similar to how they would in a physical and real space.

Finally, the purchase completion is associated with the automatic generation of leisure/cultural plans, with offers and discounts, associated with collection points in the city. In this way, it seeks to establish a synergy between commerce and the rest of the city's attractions, boosting the local economy.

The activity is part of the project “VR-ZOCO Design and development of a platform based on VR-Shopping and AI for the digitalization and strengthening of local businesses and economies” – TED2021-131082B-I00, national research project in which the AIR research group for the University of Castilla-La Mancha, and is funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation MICIN/AEI/10.13039/501100000033 and the European Union (NextGenerationEU/PRTR), in the 2021 call "Ecological Transition and Digital Transition Projects"
