Facial recognition is a fairly well-known technique in the world of artificial intelligence. It is a technique that a priori seems very difficult because it has a rather complicated neural architecture and its use is sometimes associated with systems that require a lot of computation.

The question is, do we need to know all the ins and outs of these AI networks and buy systems that are worth a lot of money? No, for less than 80 euros we can set up a facial recognition system that can verify the identity of several people. We only need certain technical concepts such as:

Small notions of programming (very basic) (Python).

Understand what an identification vector is (our face ID)

How the verification process is done.

Finally buy a low-resource system like a Raspberry PI 3B (50 euros) + a webcam (30 euros).

We will also talk about how to store biometric vectors in a safe way.

In addition to this, we will analyze strategies and techniques to avoid attacks on the facial recognizer, such as:

  • Spoofing and Deep Fakes
  • Liveness detection
  • ID vector thefts.
