Our history

The School of Computer Science at University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), located in Ciudad Real, was created by Royal Decree 1025/1989 (BOE nº 190 of August 10). The following day the authorization to start teaching in the 1989/1990 academic year appeared in the BOE and on October 14 the first study plan was published leading to obtaining the title of Diploma in Computer Science.

In order to adapt to the reform of university studies, at the beginning of 1992 new study plans were drawn up which, published in the BOE on October 20, involved the change of the previous Diploma to two new degrees that began to be taught since the 1992/1993 academic year: Technical Engineering in Computer Systems and Technical Engineering in Computer Management.

In 1992, the Government Board and the Social Council of the Regional University approved the proposal for new degrees for the future, including the Higher Computer Engineering studies at the Ciudad Real campus.

On May 28, 1998 and according to the decree 52 / 1998 of the Community Board, published in the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, the former University School of Informatics (EUI) is transformed into the current one School of Computer Science (ESI). This decree also authorizes the teaching from the 1998/1999 course of Higher Engineering. Thus, from the aforementioned course, the following official studies are taught at the ESI:

  • Computer Engineering (3-year first cycle and 2-year second cycle)
  • Technical Engineering in Computer Systems (first cycle of 3 years)
  • Technical Engineering in Computer Management (first cycle of 3 years)

At the beginning of the XXI century, the first Doctorate program in Computer Engineering at UCLM began to be taught, which was renamed Architecture and Management of Information and Knowledge in Network Systems. Subsequently, this program was transformed into an Official Postgraduate Program with an official master's degree called Advanced Information Technologies which, with a research profile, is the previous step to the supervised period leading to obtaining the degree of Doctor in Computer Engineering. The actual Doctoral Program in Advanced Information Technologies received in October 2011 the Mention towards Excellence by the Ministry of Education.

In the 2010/2011 academic year, and with the need to adapt to the European Higher Education Area, the School begins to offer the studies of Degree in Computer Engineering contemplating four intensifications corresponding to four blocks of specific technology of those collected in the corresponding academic competence files published in the BOE for the training that must qualify for the profession of Technical Engineering in Computer Science.

This offer is completed with the Master in Computer Engineering which, starting in the 2011/2012 academic year, qualifies for the Computer Engineering profession.
