The ESI organizes the Company Conferences within its big week -Santa Tecla

More than twenty companies in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector are participating in the conference held by the Ciudad Real School of Informatics with the aim of facilitating university-business interaction in a triple dimension: practices of its students, the transfer of research and the labor insertion of its graduates.

The Higher School of Informatics (ESI) of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), in the Ciudad Real Campus, is bustling today with activity on the occasion of the celebration of its Business Day, the biannual event that brings the center to more than twenty firms in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector. Well-known brands such as Telefónica, Indra, Alpinia or Avanttic; and others of a more local nature, but in full expansion, have been installed in the lobby of the university center with the purpose of advancing their relations with the university, presenting their potential to students, researchers and graduates.

Many of the managers or professionals of these companies are precisely graduates from the Higher School of Computing, which makes them a benchmark for current students, according to the director of the ESI, Eduardo Fernández-Medina, who, recalling that the center celebrates its thirtieth anniversary, has stated that this activity "represents everything we have achieved in these thirty years, offering excellent training and collaborating with the economic development of our environment".

In addition to the director of the ESI, the academic director of the Vice-rectorate for Transfer and Innovation, Miguel Castro; the president of the Provincial Council, José Manuel Caballero; the councilors of Culture and Equality of the Ciudad Real City Council, Nacho Sánchez and Ana Belén Chacón, respectively; and the provincial delegate for Education, Culture and Sports, José Jesús Caro Sierra.

During the event, two messages were repeated: the ability of companies in the technology sector to fix population in the most demographically affected nuclei, and the need to promote the insertion of women in professions in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM in the English acronym). In this sense, the deputy director of Relations with Companies of the ESI, María Ángeles Moraga, explained that the center is making a notable effort to reverse the masculinization of its classrooms, encouraging the incorporation of female students, and that the percentage of girls in first is 18%, higher than previous courses. “On this day –she has stated- we have former students who currently hold important responsibilities in leading companies in information and communication technologies; It is an honor for us to receive them because they constitute a true benchmark”.

For his part, both the vice president of the Provincial Council and the director of the Higher School of Informatics have agreed to point out the potential of companies in the information and communications technology sector to establish or attract population in the so-called "Spain emptied”, for which they have encouraged students and graduates to develop their professional activity in their environment.

The Business Conference will continue throughout the day with company presentations, meetings between students and company representatives and an informative talk on the FORTE program, a pioneering initiative of the Higher School of Informatics that enables students to carry out of his final degree project involving himself in the development of some real project of a company.

With this activity, the schedule of events in Santa Tecla, patron saint of the school, and which includes other initiatives such as a Hackathon, the holding of electronic sports or e-sports tournaments, driving simulators and augmented reality activities or the famous monologue contest, which will take place on Wednesday, 23rd October, with the participation of Rober Bodegas and Agustín Durán.
