SMACT Avanttic-ESI Classroom

A Classroom for the promotion of Social, Mobile, Analytics, Cloud and Internet of Things technologies

SMACT technologies – social networks, mobility, analytics, Cloud and the Internet of Things – have great potential. To facilitate and improve the training of students in this field and encourage its use, the Higher School of Computer Science launches the SMACT-Avanttic UCLM Technical Classroom, an initiative promoted in collaboration with Avanttic, an Oracle technology computer services company. The classroom will include among its activities the development of final degree projects in the company Avanttic, own teaching courses, scholarships and awards.

The Higher School of Computer Science of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) at the Ciudad Real Campus and the Oracle technology consulting and services company, Avanttic, have set up a University-Company Classroom that will promote the training of students and the use of SMACT technologies (acronym for Social technologies, referring to social networks; Mobile, mobile technologies; Analytics, new methods for managing large amounts of information; Cloud, cloud computing and storage; and Internet of Things, cameras, surveillance equipment, Internet-connected vehicles, household appliances,…).

The new technical classroom, which is launched under the name of SMACT-Avanttic UCLM, will allow the development of teaching and research activities that are of mutual interest for the Higher School of Informatics and for Avanttic, a company with which the academic center It has maintained a close collaboration for a year as part of its program to strengthen the professional skills of graduates to improve their employability (Forte).

The classroom, whose premiere has materialized with the signing of the agreement signed after its presentation by the rector of the UCLM, Miguel Ángel Collado; and the general director of Avanttic, Jesús García, will include among his activities the development of end-of-degree projects for students at Avanttic, self-teaching courses, Oracle technology certification scholarships and the call for prizes from the 2016-2017 academic year .

During the presentation of this new collaboration instrument, the vice-rector for Transference and Relations with Companies, Pedro Carrión, stated that the Escuela Superior de Informática and Avanttic are an example of what collaboration between university and company should be, "because a and another is needed”. In this sense, the Vice Chancellor praised the work that the academic center has been carrying out with companies and mentioned its Professionalizing program, with which it helps its students train and acquire new skills and enter the world of work.

On his side, the director of the Higher School of Informatics, Eduardo Fernández-Medina, has confirmed that this classroom, which will be directed by the UCLM professor Macario Polo, is the result of the center's commitment to the professionalization of its students and will improve the educational level of the students in the field of the new SMACT technologies based on Oracle.

Finally, the general director of Avanttic, Jesús García, explained that the choice of the Escuela Superior de Informática de Ciudad Real for the start-up of this technical classroom attends to two fundamental reasons: its proximity to Madrid and the "effort" that the School is doing for the training of its students through the Forte program. At this point, Jesús García has referred to the difficulties that Avanttic has "in finding talent" to incorporate into its workforce and has assured that "there is some in this School, because they are committed to talent and Oracle technology". In two years, September 2017, Avanttic has among its forecasts to open an Oracle specialization center in Ciudad Real, whose staff could be nourished by UCLM graduates.
