Computer science, secure employment and competitive salaries

Un recent report, published by the BBVA Foundation and the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (IVIE) at their U-Ranking project, reveals that degrees associated with Computer Science, Engineering and Health have the highest employability rates in Spain. In particular, the field of Information Technology has some of the most outstanding job placement indicators.

The data shows that graduates in Computer Science have an employment rate of 96,3%. In monetary terms, close to 80% of the graduates are in occupations with a salary equal to or greater than 1.500 euros. It should also be noted that 92,8% of these jobs are highly qualified, and that 89% of graduates work in activities directly related to their academic training.

This analysis, which focuses on the employment situation of university graduates in 2019, five years after graduation, indicates that the choice of degree and the geographic location of the individual are determining factors for obtaining and the quality of employment.

It also points out that opting for a degree with a high employability rate, such as Computer Science, can increase the probability of finding a job by up to 25% compared to other degrees with less employability. Besides, the probability of reaching a net monthly salary of more than 1.500 euros increases by 82 percentage points, and the probability of obtaining a job related to the area of study studied is practically doubled.

In the general panorama, eight Engineering disciplines, together with Computer Science, lead the ranking of degrees with the highest employability. These are, in descending order, Aeronautical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Technology Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunication Engineering, Software and Application Development, Multimedia Engineering, Energy Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronic Engineering.
