The ALARCOS group turns 26

El Alarcos Group, from the Higher School of Informatics and the University of Castilla-La Mancha, whose official name is “ALARCOS GROUP – SOFTWARE AND INFORMATION FOR A DIGITAL AND SUSTAINABLE WORLD”, celebrates its 26º anniversary. The group was created in May 1997, the year in which they began their investigations related to the maintenance of information systems; subject at that time of great interest due to the problems derived from the year 2000 and the implantation of the Euro as a currency.

Specifically, its creation was formalized on May 24th 1997 with the signing of a research contract of the UCLM with the company SLIGOS to develop the project "MANTEMA: Methodology for the Maintenance of Information Systems" whose director was professor Francisco Ruiz. This was the initial funding that allowed the group to hire some interns, purchase equipment, and finance travel.

Since then dozens of researchers, doctoral students and technologists have been integrated into the different lines of work of the group, which has also given rise to the creation of groups Green Team Alarcos y GSyAas well as the spinoffs AQCLab y DQTeam.
