Renovation of the SMACT CGI-UCLM Classroom

The rector of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), Julián Garde; and the director of Human Resources of CGI for Spain, Italy and Latin America, Óscar Martínez, have renewed the collaboration agreement that gives continuity to the SMACT Classroom to continue training Information Technology professionals and promoting the development of talent.

The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has renewed its agreement with CGI, a global Information Technology services company and business consultancy, to support the training of future Oracle professionals through the SMACT CGI-UCLM Classroom . This university-business collaboration trains students in Social, Mobile, Analytics, Cloud and Internet of Things (SMACT) solutions, which help organizations elevate their information systems to a higher level. In addition, the collaboration allows the UCLM to continue fulfilling its mission of service to society, which is also reflected in the values ​​and commitments of CGI.

Signed at the Higher School of Informatics of the Ciudad Real Campus by the rector of the University of Castilla-La Mancha, José Julián Garde López-Brea; and by the director of Human Resources of CGI for the business unit of Spain, Italy and Latin America, Óscar Martínez Mantecón, the continuity of this collaboration will allow the UCLM to continue fulfilling its work of service to society. The academic director of the Aula SMACT, the UCLM professor Macario Polo, was present at the signing of the agreement.

The SMACT CGI-UCLM Classroom is currently open to students from the Higher School of Computer Engineering on the Albacete Campus; the Higher School of Informatics (ESI) of Ciudad Real; and the Faculty of Social Sciences of Talavera de la Reina. It includes the periodic organization of various outreach activities, from specific talks to workshops on various topics related to Oracle technology guided by CGI experts in the field; sponsorship of conferences, Olympics and hackathons; the annual celebration of CGI Day and other activities promoted with the UCLM.

Since its launch, more than 400 students have been trained, and 40 students have been given the opportunity to carry out their paid internships at CGI, where they carry out an innovation project that is presented as a Final Project. .

After signing the agreement, the rector of the UCLM has highlighted that the university-business collaboration "is one of the keys that ensures the specialization of our students in the technologies and solutions that are demanded in the labor market." Likewise, he has indicated that with the renewal of the agreement with CGI "continuation is given to an initiative that since its launch seven years ago has been very fruitful for both parties as an additional instrument for the integration of students in the labor market" .

For his part, Óscar Martínez Mantecón stated that "we are very pleased to continue the SMACT CGI-UCLM Classroom as it is aligned with a shared objective between the university and our company: the training and professional development of young talent." “This initiative is aligned with other programs developed globally, thanks to which we inspire and guide young people towards STEM careers, focusing on improving their technical and business training. We offer students" -underlines Martínez- "experiences that give them passion to develop skills for a promising future in the IT sector".
