Is AI regulation necessary?

Hundreds of experts worldwide have signed a letter urging a pause on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) until a regulation is agreed. José Ángel Olivas, professor of Artificial Intelligence at the Higher School of Informatics (UCLM), was interviewed in National Radio of Spain where he considered that it is correct, both from the point of view of security and rigor: “The data you learn from can lead us to conclusions that most people can interpret as true and are biased by the training data.“. He believes that at the moment no line has been crossed, but he assures that "we are at a critical point” that requires regulation to prevent it from being used for bad purposes. “We should only develop them when we are sure that the risks will be manageable.", he claimed.

José Ángel Olivas shares your concern about the potential social and labor danger posed by the irresponsible use of AI. He also addresses the risk that the technology could be used for malicious purposes, such as terrorism and fraud. In addition, he believes that it is necessary to regulate these technologies and ensure that the risks are manageable before further development. However, he acknowledges that legislation is often one step behind technology and that this is not only a legal problem, but also a social and paradigm shift that needs to be approached from multiple perspectives.
