Attendance at the CODDII Assembly

The director of the School attended on Monday the Assembly of the CODDII, the Conference of Directors and Deans of Computer Engineering, held at the School of Computer Science of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC).


The main theme of the meeting was the updating of the recommendations of the Council of Universities on the proposals of titles in the fields of Technical Computer Engineering and Computer Engineering (Degree and Master). Indeed, the School is already working on a version of the Master based on the new design guidelines and the evolution of the profession.
Among the issues discussed, there was also talk about the consolidation of the Computer Olympiad in the National Scientific Olympics and the actions to defend Computer Science in the pre-university formative stages.

The Graduate Room of the Computer Science and Mathematics Building of the School of Computer Science of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) hosted yesterday the General Assembly of the Conference of Directors and Deans of Computer Engineering, CODDII, with the presence of the representatives of a large part of the 68 centers that currently make up this entity.

During the session, the president of CODDII, Javier Soriano, took stock of the activities organized by the entity during this year, such as the co-organization of the Computer Olympiad, the actions related to the teaching of computer science in pre-university stages, the collaborations and agreements with other national and international entities, and the technological donation made in January this year to one of the schools on the island of La Palma.

Among the topics discussed in the session was the updating of the recommendations of the Council of Universities on the proposals of titles in the fields of Technical Computer Engineering and Computer Engineering (Degree and Master). Along with this, the minutes of the previous assembly were approved, the budget for the next year was reported and the University of Zaragoza to celebrate the 2023 assembly.

Prior to the Assembly, the directors and deans of computer engineering from Spanish universities participated in the inaugural session of the Cybercampus promoted by INCIBE with the support of the ULPGC School of Computer Engineering (EII UPLGC).

The director of the EII UPLGC, Francisca Quintana Domínguez, highlighted the "educational role and commitment to society of the university" with initiatives such as the agreement signed with INCIBE to launch the #Cybercamp project "to contribute to the digital trust of the people and companies. This project will develop activities on campus until 2025 and began its actions yesterday, with the motto "people first in digital transformation".

For her part, Carla Redondo Galbarriatu, Secretary General of the National Cybersecurity Institute of Spain, INCIBE, highlighted that one of its objectives is to awaken early vocations in the field of cybersecurity for the subsequent development of talent, and the Rector of the UPLGC, Lluís Serra Majem, mentioned the fragility of security systems in the university environment with specific references to computer attacks such as the one received by the Autonomous University of Barcelona last year.

The CODDII Assembly coincides the same week that the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) celebrates the Ministerial Conference on the digital economy that begins today, December 13, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and will continue until next December 16. December and which brings together the ministers of economy and areas related to digitization of 50 countries.

The main points to be discussed and agreed upon will be about how governments can find a balance between taking advantage of the benefits of digital transformation and protecting people, society and the risks that these new economies can create, such as cyber attacks. For this reason, issues such as rights in the digital age, computer security, connectivity and other digital divides, online disinformation, as well as ensuring that the digital transformation is coherent and supports the green transition and the objectives will be addressed. of zero carbon emissions.

Along with the countries that are part of the OECD, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Peru, Romania and Ukraine will also attend. In addition, there will be representatives of technology companies such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft or Telefónica, as well as Canarian companies linked to these productive activities.
