Recently, the Higher School of Computer Science and the Department of Information Technologies and Systems have obtained €982.940 in subsidies from European Next Generation funds to finance 5 projects aimed at the Ecological Transition and the Digital Transition (TED). Professor Francisco Ruiz analyzes the results of the UCLM and the ESI in the 2021 call for projects aimed at the Ecological Transition and the Digital Transition, of the State Plan for Scientific Research and Innovation 2021-2023, within the framework of the Recovery Plan, Transformation and Resilience.

Below is a brief summary of the analysis mentioned above in which the results are presented from the most general (at the national level) to the most particular (ESI-CR):

1) From a global point of view, and at a national level, it is confirmed that universities are the main source of R&D&i in Spain:

2) UCLM is well positioned among Spanish universities. Specifically, it occupies position 14 within the 80 Spanish universities, placing it ahead of some larger universities with much more history. It obtains 29 projects totaling 5.005.260 euros, 1% of the call, or 78% of all universities.

3) Within the UCLM, the thematic areas (https://www.aei.gob.es/areas-tematicas/areas-tematicas) with the most projects/financing have been ICT, Energy and Transport, and Industrial production and engineering. ICT stands out with almost 30% of the total financing. Of the 19 existing thematic areas, there are projects for 10 of them. There are projects from four of the five major branches of knowledge: engineering (17 projects with 58% of funding), experimental sciences (2, 8%), social sciences (33, 2%) and health (3, 6%).

4) Going into greater detail, there are UCLM projects in 16 of the 54 existing thematic subareas. Computing, Energy, and Climate dominate the podium. Informática clearly leads with 26% of the global financing of the UCLM.

5) Of the 7 Computer Science projects (subarea=INF) financed, 5 are from ESI professors (one appears as UCLM in general and another associated with the TSI department). The ESI is therefore the undisputed leader within the UCLM in this call. The 5 projects of the ESI+TSI total 983.940 euros, 19% of the total UCLM. The project with the most funding from the UCLM, with 7 euros, is from the ESI.

Finally, through this medium, we convey our congratulations to the entire UCLM, its researchers in Computer Science and the members of the ESI.
