Mario Piattini World Top 11 in Software Engineering

The ESI professor and director of the Alarcos group has been recognized as one of the most scientifically productive in the world

A study carried out by the ScienceDirect platform has positioned the professor at the University of Castilla-La Mancha Mario Piattini in the top 20 of the most active experienced researchers in the world in journals with maximum scientific impact in the field of Software Engineering between the years 2010 and 2017. The work takes into consideration the count of documents in which the author participates, the average impact of the works, the research seniority of the authors and the homogeneity of the publications in different journals.

The professor of the Area of Computer Languages and Systems of the Higher School of Computer Science of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) Mario Gerardo Piattini Velthuis appears among the twenty most active experienced researchers in the world in Software Engineering in journals of the highest quality in the period 2010-2017, according to the ScienceDirect platform of peer-reviewed academic studies.

The document presents the results of a bibliometric study between the years 2010 and 2017 that identifies the emerging lines of research, the 20 most important institutions and the 20 top academics in the early stage, consolidated and with experience in the field of Software Engineering.

Mario Piattini together with the professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid Natalia Juristo are the only experienced Spanish researchers referenced in this list of scholars in their field, and also the only ones if the section on consolidated researchers and those found in initial stages. In the experienced category, Professor Piattini ranks 11th (from 11th to 15th the researchers are tied on points), with 20 articles published in one of the seven leading high-impact scientific journals in Software Engineering.

The study of the 'top 20 researchers' has been carried out according to four variables: count of documents in which the author participates, average impact of the works, seniority of the authors and homogeneity of the publications in different journals.

Professor Mario Piattini has a doctorate in Computer Science and a degree in Psychology. He joined UCLM in 1997 and is currently Professor of Computer Languages and Systems at this academic institution, where he also directs the Alarcos research group. His lines of research focus on the quality of software and the security of information systems. His work has brought him several awards. Thus, in 2011 he was selected among the 15 'Top scholars in the field of Systems and Software Engineering' and in 2017 the Computer Science Society of Spain awarded him the 2016 National Computing Prize to the researcher under 55 years of age.
