The work is part of a teaching innovation project of the Degree in Computer Science of Ciudad Real

A group of students from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has designed and developed the new corporate image and website of the Santa Águeda Association of Women Affected by Breast Cancer in Puertollano. The result is the result of a project of teaching innovation, and marked social commitment, of the Electronic Commerce subject of the Higher School of Computer Science at the Ciudad Real Campus.

A gallery of four large, full-screen images with automatic presentation, each loaded with a special communicative force and accompanied by a message, is the gateway to the new websites of the Santa Águeda Association of Women Affected by Breast Cancer in Puertollano. Behind her and her change of corporate image is a group of students from the Higher School of Computer Science of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM9) who, almost five months ago, entrusted the project that today has been presented to society in the mining city supported by the Vice-rector for Teaching Staff, Juan José López Cela; the former Minister of Social Affairs and national president of UNHCR, Matilde Fernández; the lawyer Cristina Almeida, honorary member of the Santa Águeda Association; the head of the Gynecology service at the Santa Bárbara hospital in Puertollano, Agustín Luque; the mayor of that city, Mayte Fernández; and the president of the Association, Ana Valderas.

The project, which was called 'Mamá', has been developed within the framework of the Electronic Commerce subject of the Computer Science Degree, coordinated by the UCLM professor José Jesús Castro, and is the result of an experience of teaching innovation in the that the project-based teaching/learning methodology has been combined with the social commitment of the participants. "The initial idea was for the students to face a real problem and learn how to start an electronic commerce program -a web page-, and which in turn would be useful and provide a service to society," he says. Professor Castro.

The new website of the Santa Águeda Association conveys who they are, their work, their values and their way of obtaining funds to finance cancer research. In short, it helps them to be more visible in their fight against this disease through a superior menu made up of seven items that provide information about the association, how it can help those who need it, about the disease and how to collaborate, the solidarity products they have for sale, a blog and how to contact them.

The 'Mamá' project, as explained by José Jesús Castro, involved 37 students grouped into six groups named after women. The final website chosen by the Santa Águeda Association was the proposal presented by the group called Marta, made up of students Javier Alonso Ponce, José Manuel García-Calvillo García-Navas, Gonzalo García Moreno and José Miguel Torralbo Martínez, for being "the most different and that best conveyed what the association was”. In its design and development, carried out in a totally altruistic way, professionals from the University and outside of it have collaborated, as well as former students of the Higher School of Computing. In addition, the creation of the blog and content development is the work of Eduardo Fuentes García de Blas, Oliva Gálvez García, Josué Gutiérrez Durán, Sonia Querencia Martín, Enrique Simarro Santamaría and Clara Isabel Sotomayor Dorado.

This is the third time that Professor José Jesús Castro has involved his students in a charity project for a real client. First it was with the El Lucero occupational center (Alhama, Granada) and later with the La Bienvenida animal shelter (Ciudad Real).
