Professor of the UCLM and professor of the ESI awarded with the national prize Aritmel

The Computer Science Society of Spain held the 2016 National Computer Science Awards ceremony. In the Aritmel category, the researcher under 55 years of age who has made outstanding scientific contributions in the area of ​​Computer Engineering, the award went to Professor of the Area of ​​Computer Languages ​​and Systems at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) Mario Gerardo Piattini Velthuis, professor at the Higher School of Computer Science of Ciudad Real.

The professor of the Area of ​​Computer Languages ​​and Systems of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) Mario Gerardo Piattini Velthuis yesterday collected the 2016 National Computer Award in the Aritmel category, awarded by the Computer Science Society of Spain, during the ceremony held at the headquarters of the BBVA Foundation in Madrid. This distinction is awarded to that researcher, under 55 years of age, who has made outstanding scientific contributions in the area of ​​Computer Engineering. The UCLM professor, the jury highlighted being the most prolific Spanish author and with the highest impact index in software engineering and having created several technology-based companies. 

The prizes awarded by the Spanish Computer Science Society since 2005 come to recognize already consolidated researchers and to encourage research in computer science. Together with Professor Mario Piattini, the winners in this edition have been the professor of the Department of Languages ​​and Computer Systems of the University of Seville Miguel Toro and the Telecommunications engineer by the UPM Nuria Oliver in the modalities 'José García Santesmases' to the trajectory professional and 'Ángela Ruiz Robles' to activities that promote research or entrepreneurship in the area of ​​Computer Engineering, respectively. 

The winners of the National Computing Awards represent research excellence in Spain, with a high international impact in areas such as Software and Database Engineering and artificial intelligence. The three winners in this edition have fostered a close relationship with the business sector, collaborating with some of the main global companies and also creating new companies in Spain. 

The awards ceremony, in which Professor Mario Piattini was surrounded by disciples and colleagues from the UCLM, coincided with the award ceremony of the first edition of the Research Awards of the Spanish Computer Science Society-BBVA Foundation, for young people IT under 30 years of age.
