The science gap between men and women starts at school

Both boys and girls are convinced, at 88%, that they will need to know about programming to find a job. 90%, with a majority of girls, think it is important to learn computer science. 70% of both believe they have the intelligence and the ability to make an effort to study them. So far the same perception and, suddenly, female stats plummet. The girls, between 6 and 16 years old, do not consider studying something related to computer science, they do not want to, they are not even interested. When both genders were asked directly who was most interested in this subject, the consensus was overwhelming: they are the ones showing interest. Only 1% thought that her partner would be the one interested in science. This is the x-ray that comes off the study Computer Science Education Spain 2015, prepared by Google, the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and everis, presented this Wednesday in Madrid.
