The Spin-off Furius Koalas, from the Escuela Superior de Informática and the University of Castilla-La Mancha, to which two ESI professors belong: David Vallejo Fernandez y Carlos Gonzalez Morcillo, has been awarded as young company of the year in the 'Impulse to Telecommunications Awards' (More information)

On World Informatics Day, December 9, the Official College of Computer Engineers of Castilla-La Mancha (COIICLM) held the COIICLM 2021 Computer Awards. Our colleague Mario Piattini, University Professor of the ESI and director of the research group Alarcos, gave an initial conference on Software and Data Quality.

During the ceremony, Mario Piattini was awarded the prize Grace Hopper the computer scientist of the year, as well as the European project SHAPES in the category of Innovative Public Initiative, led by María José Santofimia, Full Professor of the ESI, and developed by the ARCO research group.

Spin-Offs of ESI and UCLM awarded at the Open Innovation Castilla-La Mancha

Organized by the CEEIs (European Centers of Innovation Companies of Castilla-La Mancha)

On November 18, 2021, the final phase of the first edition of the Open Innovation Castilla-La Mancha was held, organized by the CEEIs (European Centers of Innovation Companies of Castilla-La Mancha). The event consists of the resolution of challenges proposed by the 4 leading companies (Cojali, Róderas y Rivera, Vitae Naturals and Witzenmann) by entrepreneurs to achieve cooperation between these 'start up' and consolidated regional companies. 24 companies have participated proposing solutions to the 4 challenges. Two of the winning companies of the challenges are Spin-Offs of the UCLM:

  • Challenge 'Cojali': Winning start up: Furious Koalas. The Spin-Off of the UCLM established in 2016 Furious Koalas is specialized in immersive systems, artificial intelligence and the development of cloud systems, has 20 years of experience in the projects carried out in the Oreto and AIR research groups of the Higher School of Computing of Ciudad Real. 
  • Witzenmann challenge. Winning start-up: Inwire Technologies. Spin-Off in the constitution of the University of Castilla-La Mancha that capitalizes on the more than 20 years of experience of the members of the ARCO research group of the Higher School of Computing of Ciudad Real. Inwire offers custom engineering and development services in the field of embedded systems, computer vision, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things

Professor Coral Calero accésit of the iDanae national award

Professor Coral Calero

La iDanae Chair (intelligence, data, analysis and strategy) in Big Data and Analytics, created within the collaboration framework of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and Management Solutions, organized the iDanae Award for a woman with an excellent STEM professional career, con el objetivo de make visible academic and professional careers of women in the field of STEM and expand the talent base female in this area.

Given the high level of all the participants, the jury has also decided to publicly recognize, by awarding a second prize, the professional careers of Rachel Boat Brunette (Malaga University), Coral Calero Munoz (Castilla-La Mancha university), Eva Pagan Diaz (Spanish Electric Network) already Mary of the Mar Viana Rodriguez (Superior Council of Scientific Investigations).

The National University of La Plata in Argentina has named José Ángel Olivas Varela a professor at the Higher School of Computer Science of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) as doctor 'honoris causa'. The director of the SMILe research group will receive the institution's highest academic distinction in September if the COVID-19 pandemic allows. To know more click here.

The Spanish Computer Science Society awarded the 2016 National Computer Science Award in the 'Aritmel' category, which distinguishes researchers under 55 years of age who have made outstanding scientific contributions in the area of ​​Computer Engineering, to the professor of the University of Castilla-La Mancha Mario Piattini. The jury highlighted the fact of being a national and international benchmark in the quality of information systems, a field in which he focuses his line of research; as well as its technology transfer activity.
