Participatory Budget 2021

Un participatory budget It is an instrument that allows participatory democracy to be incorporated in the definition of certain expenditure items, so that the members of a community decide freely and directly the destination of a part of the budget.

To apply this practice to ESI budget for the year 2021, a procedure is established through which the university community of the ESI will first propose its project proposals to be financed, then these will be evaluated in order to detect those that could be redundant or not viable due to regulatory or technical issues and Finally, the accepted proposals will be voted on and chosen.

So the participation of the staff and students of the ESI can occur in two ways: presenting proposals and, later, voting on the set of proposals made.

As a pilot program, the amount of the participatory budget for the 2021 financial year amounts to 5.000 €. With this initiative, we hope to generate positive learning that will allow us to extend the economic scope in the coming years and improve the management of these participatory budgets.

Projects selected for voting

Projects selected by the Responsibility, Culture and Sport Commission Among the proposals submitted by the ESI university community:

ProjectNameNeedDescriptionImports
1Specialized training through Virtual Education PlatformsAcquire specific training only available on these platformsVirtual education platforms, Cousera, Udacity, etc. They offer advanced and current courses on topics that may be useful to the ESI faculty both in teaching and in research. The free versions of the courses limit access to materials and also do not certify the completion of the course. The accreditation of this training could be an interesting indicator for the center. It is proposed to finance 25 instances of courses.5.000€
2CPD Model (Data Processing Center)There is no laboratory with numerous nodes and network equipment where students can freely configure itIt would consist of a mobile rack of 40 raspberry nodes with two POE switches and a router between switches.5.000€
3ESI-Startup Entrepreneurship ConferencePromote the creation of companies by the ESI-UCLM community. Contribute to the socioeconomic development of Ciudad Real and the regionCreate a regular annual workshop (e.g., in the week of Santa Tecla) for training/experiences in entrepreneurship, where former ESI students who have set up their business are invited, bring high-level guests for training talks, etc. and organize a contest of entrepreneurial ideas and award a prize.5.000€
4equality and diversityMaking women and minority groups visibleAlthough lately there is a lot of support for the initiatives to make women visible in IT and to support our colleagues at the School, I think we can make more progress when it comes to making other minorities visible, such as the LGTB community. My proposal is that the School give the same importance to this group as to women to create an open and diverse space in which we can all feel identified, and decorate the School this June with this theme.- > Note: according to what was discussed in the Selection Commission, the School endorses the part of this project in which it is proposed to assign the name of Alan Turing to an academic space of the ESI in accordance with other management programs, regardless of the choice or not of this economic program.200€
5Reactivation of activities of the school's culture, sports and social student clubsReactivate groups to socialize between studentsRe-activate the different clubs by proposing new activities for them and making a certain economic endowment available to the clubs to support the carrying out of their activities.-> Note: according to what was discussed in the Selection Commission, from the School, regardless of the choice or not of this economic program, organizational support will be offered to the activity of said clubs.400 €
