We talk about AI "In Depth" at CMMedia

Teachers of ESI en UCLM, José Ángel Olivas, Francisco Pascual Romero and Carlos González, bring the Artificial Intelligence to society in the program “In deep", from Castile-La Mancha Middle. This video is a summary of the participation of the ESI teachers in the program, the complete report can be found view it on the CMMedia website.

Artificial Intelligence: Transforming our daily lives and the future

History

Artificial Intelligence (AI), the branch of computer science that focuses on creating systems capable of performing tasks that normally require human intervention, has been with us longer than we usually realize. Established as a discipline in 1956 during a conference at Dartmouth College, this technology has experienced a boom in development in recent years thanks to increased computer power, advances in machine learning algorithms, and the availability of large amounts of data for training AI models.

Artificial intelligence in everyday life

Today, AI is present in almost all the devices we use. From web search engines like Google to the GPS navigation apps we use to get around town, AI has become so deeply embedded in our society that we are often unaware of its presence. Furthermore, it is transforming the way we consume news, shop, interact on social media, and even manage our personal finances.

Fighting misinformation with Artificial Intelligence

In Ciudad Real, the SMILE research group, led by José Ángel Olivas, is using AI to combat an increasingly alarming problem: disinformation. The team uses AI technology to analyze videos suspected of spreading false or misrepresented news. The analysis focuses not only on the content of the video, but also on other less obvious factors such as the journalist's body language, voice inflections and the context of the images presented. This multi-dimensional approach allows for a more comprehensive and accurate assessment of content, helping to unmask misinformation.

AI in education

The use of GPT, a predictive language model, is becoming more common in the field of education. Capable of answering questions in multiple languages and generating high-quality, coherent texts based on pre-specified words, this system is used to help teachers and students create and better understand educational content. AI systems like this can significantly increase productivity and enable more personalized and efficient learning.

AI and ethical challenges

Despite its advantages, AI also poses challenges and ethical dilemmas that need to be addressed. For example, an AI-powered driverless bus prototype in Finland raises the question of who would be liable in the event of an accident. To address these and other issues, Europe is working on the world's first law on Artificial Intelligence, which aims to classify AI systems based on their level of responsibility. However, it is a great challenge to regulate AI effectively, given the wide scope and rapid evolution of this technology.

Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the future

Although AI is increasingly present in our daily lives, and will have a greater influence in the near future, it will be in large and complex projects where its impact will be truly transformative. Whether it is building smart infrastructure, accelerating scientific research, or boosting space exploration, AI will play a key role. AI's ability to process and learn from vast amounts of data and accurately predict outcomes will allow us to tackle these projects with unprecedented efficiency and security.
