José Ángel Olivas receives the title of Dr. Honoris Causa

Professor Jose Angel Olivas, from the Higher School of Informatics, recibe finally the title of Doctor Honoris Causa awarded by the National University of La Plata (UNLP), in a public act. The title of Dr. Honoris Causa is the highest distinction awarded by the UNLP. This distinction was attributed virtually to José Ángel Olivas in 2020, who could not be recognized in person due to the global pandemic situation.

Dr. Olivas Varela has a solid academic background. He is the creator and Director of the SMILe Research Group, which brings together researchers from the University of Castilla-La Mancha, the Universidad Pontificia Comillas-ICAI and various Latin American universities. He also holds positions in Research and Postgraduate management at the University of Castilla La Mancha- Spain.

In recent years, the contribution of Dr. Olivas Varela has been significant in the development of the Postgraduate course in the Faculty of Informatics of the UNLP through his participation in the Academic Committee of the Master's Degree and the Specialization in Data Intelligence oriented to Big Data . He has also collaborated in the training of Doctors in Computer Science in Argentine and Latin American Universities. He also participates in projects with UNLP researchers and has taught in the Doctorate of the Faculty of Informatics on several occasions.

Finally, with regard to scientific production, it is an international benchmark in its disciplinary area. As a reference, he has more than 190 presentations at International Congresses, 38 publications in indexed journals, more than 30 book chapters on topics of the discipline and has given 37 lectures at different Congresses / Conferences. On the other hand, he edited 19 books on scientific topics in the discipline and has received numerous academic awards related to his scientific work.
