The largest building technology fair in Spain rewards a tool by Professor Antonio Adán

A tool designed by two research groups from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has received the award for Digitization and Technological Commitment at Rebuild, the most important technology fair dedicated to professionals in the building sector in Spain. The project, called VET-5D, serves to identify humidity or thermal bridges and improve energy efficiency, among other advances.

Rebuild, the great technological event for construction in Spain, has awarded the prize for Digitization and Technological commitment to a development of two research groups from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM). The proposal, called VET-5D, is a visualization and exploration tool for three-dimensional thermal models of building interiors and, among other advances, enables the automated identification of humidity or thermal bridges and their variations over time.

This tool is the result of the collaboration of the research groups 3D Visual Computing & Robotics and Energy and Structural Modeling and Analysis in Building and Civil Works (MA+EE) and is part of two research projects, one national and one regional, which , according to those responsible, incorporate technical innovations for the creation and use of three-dimensional thermal models of buildings through the fusion of technologies based on 3D laser and thermography. "The tools allow the creation of point clouds and their comparative analysis with simulation models and evaluation of comfort parameters and energy efficiency of buildings", they point out.

The projects that have given rise to the development are "Creation of 5D models of multi-storey buildings using mobile thermal digitalization platforms", led by the professor of the Higher School of Computer Science of Ciudad Real Antonio Adán Oliver, and "5D sensory system in BIM environments for characterization and energy analysis of buildings: Applications in architectural heritage”, whose main researchers are Antonio Adán himself, professor at the Francisco Castilla Polytechnic School of Cuenca.

Rebuild, the technology fair dedicated to professionals in the building sector in Spain, has celebrated its fifth edition at Ifema, beating its own participation record with 17 visitors, 344 exhibiting firms, 372 international experts at the National Congress of Architecture 581 and an economic impact of 4.0 million euros for the city of Madrid. The Advanced Architecture Awards, among which is the one received by the UCLM research groups, recognize the work, leadership and effort of all companies and professionals who choose transformation, disruption and innovation as a business model.
