Awarded during the celebration of the international day of educating cities

The Higher School of Computer Science of Ciudad Real of the UCLM has been awarded with the recognition of the City Council of Argamasilla de Calatrava for its educational work around new technologies, in the celebration of the international day of the educating city.

On December 1, the City Council of Argamasilla de Calatrava, during the commemorative events of the international day of the educational city, presented the recognition of the educational work to the Escuela Superior de Informática de Ciudad Real (ESI). In this act, various mentions were given to the people and organizations that had contributed the most to the educational development of this town. The mention given to the Escuela Superior de Informática recognizes the effort made by it to bring digital skills closer to the young people of the town in close collaboration with its town hall and with the IES Alonso Quijano, materialized in various training actions related to programming and robotics for the youth of Argamasilla de Calatrava.

These initiatives are part of the commitment of the UCLM School of Computing to bring the university closer to the children and young people of our region, framed in the TechLab program. This program includes informative and training activities to learn about computing and new technologies, awaken scientific vocation and enhance digital skills. Activities of various kinds (motivational talks, programming workshops, robotics and videogames, interactive experiences, among others) are carried out both in secondary schools in the region and in the ESI facilities.

The recognition was collected in a public act by the director of the school, Mr. Eduardo Fernández-Medina, who highlighted during his speech the relationship between the university and the rest of the organizations with competences in education and training to "achieve greater integration with our society, specifically, with companies in the information technology sector, public institutions and especially with secondary and high school education centers in our region”. He highlighted the profound changes in all areas of our society that are taking place due to new technologies; a future that “is predicted with many unknowns, but where there is no doubt that digital skills will be key”. Finally, he wanted to thank the City Council of Argamasilla for this distinction and personally its mayor Jacinta Monroy and its deputy mayor Sergio Gijón, indicating that "The city council of Argamasilla de Calatrava has well deserved its membership in the select group of Educating Cities, given its high involvement in the education for the personal and professional future of their neighbors.”
