XI Regional Informatics Olympiads in ESI

Final phase and awards ceremony held on May 26

The University of Castilla-La Mancha presented the prizes of the XI Regional Olympiad of Computing, a competition that from its previous phase involved more than 350 students of Baccalaureate and Vocational Training enthusiasts of this discipline. Together with that, the academic institution celebrates different scientific Olympiads each year that serve as a meeting point between the University and Secondary Education and as a stimulus among the youngest to study different disciplines.

Promoting knowledge of science and awakening vocations among the youngest, stimulating their interest in university studies in the different branches of knowledge and rewarding the effort and academic performance of students are part of the objectives pursued by the different pre-university Olympics organized by the University of Castilla-La Mancha, together with associations and different entities, and the collaboration and unconditional involvement of Secondary schools and their teachers.

Hundreds of Secondary and Baccalaureate students participate year after year in these initiatives with which the UCLM also opens its doors to those who in the not too distant future will fill its classrooms to pursue their higher education and in some cases represent the first contact with the university world.

Olympiads of Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology and Computer Science are the competitions that take place under the auspices of the UCLM. Precisely, the regional final of the latter, Computer Science, took place last week at the Ciudad Real School of Computer Science, organized by this center and the School of Computer Engineering of Albacete.

The grand finale of the XI Informatics Olympiad faced three teams in the Baccalaureate and Vocational Training categories in a competition that had a television format and in which the participants had to answer questions related to this discipline. After the 'television dispute', the Koala Hacker Blanco team, from the IES Alonso de Covarrubias de Torrijos (Toledo) prevailed in the Baccalaureate modality, where the second and third place went to Los Olmos 1 and Sabinas++, respectively, from the institutes Los Olmos from Albacete and Las Sabinas from El Bonillo (Albacete), in that order. In training cycles, The New Order, from the Virgen de Gracia in Puertollano (Ciudad Real), won; while Null Pointer Azarquiel from IES Azarquiel from Toledo and 100% Sergiosito Time from IES Leonardo da Vinci from Albacete got the second and third position.

Activities such as the Olympics are an example of the connection and good relationship that exists between UCLM and Secondary schools, which in turn is reflected in other actions such as pre-university visits to schools or faculties or the open day for families, among others.
